Transits of the Soul
Has Your Soul Been Trying to Contact You?
By Maxine Jones
Did you have an invisible friend when you were a child? Do you still talk to someone inside your head? Have you ever missed an accident by just seconds and realized someone or something had pulled you out of harm's way? Do you sometimes feel you have a guardian angel?
The things we call synchronicities may point to your soul trying to communicate with you.
Everyone has a soul that's silently working behind the scenes. Did you know your soul doubles its efforts to communicate with you at very specific times in your life cycle, such as adolescence and midlife? Those are called Transits of the Soul.
In your early teens, you suddenly begin challenging authority and expressing your independence. You throw out the advice "Let your conscience be your guide" and instead make decisions that test the boundaries set by your parents and teachers. You begin to establish your self-identity based on new experiences. You think of your peers as your family because they're going through this with you. This is a time in life when the soul steps away from you to give you a chance to express your humanness.
When you're in your mid- to late 20s, your soul comes back to your life as a partner and helps you sort through all the information you've taken in. You're ready to take on the responsibilities of raising a family or climbing the corporate ladder. You start talking about big dreams and big plans. You feel your life is coming together. Your self-identity realigns with the foundation set in your childhood, so you reconnect with your spiritual beliefs. Your soul is there as a welcome friend.
In your mid- to late 40s, your soul shakes you into awareness again, intervening during one of the most vulnerable times in your life. You might experience what some call a "midlife crisis" or a complete realignment of values. On one hand, you're experiencing success in what you've worked toward, such as career or parenthood, and you're coming into your power. On the other hand, you feel disoriented and confused because you're not sure where you're going in the future. You might experience a "great awakening." This is because your soul is hyper-present.
Your soul communicates with you more frequently again later in your life, possibly in your late 60s and early 70s. The communication comes through your heart, instead of your head, which leaves you feeling great joy and peace. Your attitude about what's really important starts to change, and you feel a wisdom that comes from your life experience. Your soul gives you a sense of relief because this is the eternal part of you, so you don't need to fear the end of life. You are becoming more like your soul.
Transits of the Soul
- Pre-conception and prior to birth - Your parents or other people close to them know you're coming or sense something specific about you.
- Birth - You survive a trauma or special circumstances, or your parents feel a spiritual connection with you.
- Age 2 - You start communicating with an imaginary friend, an object or an activity that you identify as part of your sense of self.
- Age 14-16 - Major transition: You step away from your soul to make room for personal will and choice in the world. Your hopes, dreams and personal desires start to take shape.
- Age 26-29 - Major transition: Your soul connection returns, giving you strong inner direction. You re-evaluate your purpose, change direction and refine your goals. Your need to be independent and willful starts to fade. You feel more secure, and your soul helps you settle into family and career.
- Age 45-47 - Major transition: You feel a desire to experience greater purpose. This is often a time of healing, realignment and remembering. You feel a need to complete something. For parents, this is when your children leave home and your life is in change. It's the pre-menopausal time for women, and it's when men are at the height of their careers.
- Ages 68-75 - Graceful long transition: You start to complete life's physical experiences and find inner peace and clarity of soul values. This is a great time of discovery about life and what's important to you and sets you free. This is when grandparents and grandchildren are most connected with one another at a soul level.
When you're more connected with your soul, you might begin to experience any number of the following things:
- Increased synchronicities
- Feeling of peace
- Reduction in struggle
- Things flowing and coming together
- More energy
- Increased moments of joy
- Strength to do things that have not been completed
- Willingness to forgive
- A desire to communicate with your soul more frequently
Your soul is engaged when you're doing something that feels so right and so meaningful that you slip into "the zone." You could be playing a sport, making music, writing a poem, taking a walk, rocking your baby, praying, negotiating a business deal, performing volunteer work, or spending time on a hobby like woodworking or scrapbooking. Time seems to stand still, and you feel a pure bliss words can't describe. You know at that moment you're exactly where you're supposed to be.
If these things can happen when you're not even trying, think about how powerful a partner your soul can be in your life if you're working together!
Your connection and interaction with your soul will be unique for you. Each person's experience will be different, and each equally profound. The soul is your greatest resource of power, freedom, love and fulfillment. It just needs to be encouraged to perform and challenged to take action. It's patiently waiting to be explored.
